Bates shows Monhegan island collection

LEWISTON - Bates College Museum of Art will exhibit the collection of John M. Day Friday through Sept. 2. Day, who has lived most of his life in Maine, began collecting work by Maine artists in 1976, eventually focusing on the artists of Monhegan Island.

An opening reception for "Monhegan: The Abstracted Island" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (6/15) at the museum, 75 Russell St.

The Bates College Museum of Art is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
